LIVING IN MOREHEAD
Morehead is a somewhat small city located in the state of Kentucky. With a population of 7,151 people and five constituent neighborhoods, and is the 65th largest community in Kentucky.
This is neither predominantly blue-collar nor white-collar, instead of having a mixed workforce of both blue-collar and white-collar jobs. Overall, this is a city of professionals, service providers, and sales and office workers. There are especially a lot of people living here who work in sales jobs (13.81%), healthcare (12.34%), and food service (10.19%).
A relatively large number of people telecommute to their jobs. Overall, about 8.81% of the workforce works from home. While this may seem like a small number, as a fraction of the total workforce it ranks among the highest in the country. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
This is a small town where college students really create the town feel and character. So many small towns have lost population over the last 20-30 years that having the local college presence, with all of the energy of the students filling area dorms and apartments each fall, really helps maintain a good economy.
Residents of the city have the good fortune of having one of the shortest daily commutes compared to the rest of the country. On average, they spend only 15.70 minutes getting to work every day.
This is a small city, and as such doesn’t have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.
